The antifreeze is needed to have "weak" points on the engine block and cylinder head that can be moved by the tensile force of the ice. There are many holes in the engine block or cylinder head that allow the coolant and engine oil to drain. However, there are technological or unused holes, in many cases these are also closed with an expansion (frost) plug. Available in flanged or flangeless designs.
